Sister-City Partnerships

Cultural exchange thrives in Bavaria. Many Bavarian communities have active contacts with sister cities in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Altogether there are 130 such partnerships between Bavaria and the CEE region. In a spirit of partnership and openness, they exchange ideas and views about current issues relating to municipal development, local politics in general, sociopolitical matters, and also cultural aspects. Borders are crossed and joint projects implemented without any red tape.

When it comes to school exchanges and reciprocal visits, contacts are also established on a private basis consolidating the ties linking Bavaria with Central and Eastern Europe. Joint events and festivals provide insights into their culture, art, history and traditions. Sister city partnerships therefore make an important contribution towards better understanding and integration among the people in the various countries. What counts in Bavaria are the concrete, direct personal contacts. The same also applies to our partners in the neighboring countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Relations between Bavaria and CEE are an effective instrument for European integration and so play an important part in helping a region to grow together.
